This Privacy Policy explains how the Journal app ("Journal," "we," "us") collects, uses, and protects your information. By using the app, you agree to this policy.
Who we are
Journal is a personal voice‑journaling and self‑improvement app (journaling, habits, challenges, photos, calendar, and fitness). It is operated by an individual developer. Questions? Contact [email protected].
What we collect
- Account information — your email address (for sign‑in) and the first name you provide.
- Journal content — the text and voice check‑ins you record. Audio is transcribed to text; we do not retain the audio recording after transcription.
- Habits, challenges, letters, and preferences — the habits and challenges you track, letters you write to your future self, and your app settings.
- Photos ("Moments") — images you choose to add, stored privately in your account.
- Calendar data — with your permission, Journal reads and adds events on your device's calendar to power the planner. Calendar data stays on your device and is not sent to our servers.
How we use your information
- To provide the app's features and store your entries so you can revisit them.
- To generate personalized reflections, prompts, and insights. To do this, your journal text and summarized activity numbers are sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to produce a response, which is returned to you.
- To personalize the experience (for example, addressing you by name and applying your settings).
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your health, fitness, journal, or WHOOP data for advertising.
Where your data is stored, and who processes it
Your data is stored in your account with Supabase (database and file storage). Journal uses these service providers to operate:
- Supabase — account authentication, database, and photo storage.
- Make (Integromat) — connects the app to the AI provider and to WHOOP, and securely stores your WHOOP access tokens on the server side.
- Anthropic — generates AI reflections and insights from the content sent to it.
